Window Types

To compliment your door design, we offer a wide range of glass options – both single pane and insulated units.

We build our doors with old-fashioned, ‘true divided lite.’ If you’re unfamiliar with this term, it means that individual glass units are divided by muntin bars (often referred to as ‘mullions’). This way, each ‘lite’ is its piece of glass. The benefit to building our doors this way is that, should the glass be damaged, you will only need to remove and replace the individual panes affected, not all of the glass.

Below are a few of the most common types of glass we offer for our doors. (Others available upon request)

Window Types

Clear Glass for Exterior Doors

Clear (standard) | $

Fully visibility with a smooth surface. Keep the heat in with our most popular choice.

Beveled Glass for exterior front doors

Beveled | $

Made by taking the thick glass and carving an angled surface around the periphery. A bevel is simple yet refined.

Stain Etched Glass for exterior entry doors

Satin Etch | $$

Made by sandblasting – with a machine or by hand. Opaque/semi-private with a smooth surface and uniform coverage. Good for a range of interior and exterior applications. This glass provides medium privacy.

White Laminated Glass for exterior entry doors

White Laminated | $$

(Opaque for most privacy)

Fully visibility with a smooth surface. Keep the heat in with our most popular choice. Also Known as Safety Glass.

Seedy Reamy glass for solid wood front door

Seedy Reamy | $$

5/32” thick (Obscure visibility)

The obscure glass allows light to pass through. However, visibility is distorted. Easily identified by elongated swirls and small bubbles – Seedy Reamy glass adds character and whimsy to interior or exterior applications alike.

Designer tip: Elongated swirl formations tend to read best when lites are oriented vertically (long dimension = top to bottom vs. side to side)

Flemish Glass for custom wooden doors

Flemish | $$

(Obscure visibility)

The flemish glass looks like hand-blown glass without the seeds, bubbles, or price tag. Light passes through while visibility is distorted – creating some privacy. This glass type offers an old-world / slightly antique look.

Designer tip: Flemish glass looks great in larger half or full-height applications in the door.

Leaded Glass for custom wood front door

Leaded | $$

(Single pane only at this time)

Leaded glass for windows and doors is made by taking glass that is typically ⅛” to 3/16” thick, cut into smaller pieces, assembled in a framework of strips of lead, then joined and soldered together. This is a handmade process. Thus price will depend on the complexity of the design and glass type.

Graylite Glass for wood entry doors

Graylite | $$

(Darkened uninterrupted visibility)

Graylite is the architect’s favorite for good looks, exceptional UV protection, and excellent solar control characteristics. Gray light helps protect interior fabrics and colors from fading by blocking UV energy. This glass is ideal for glare control and privacy glazing.

Moirropane Glass for custom garage doors

Mirropane | $$$

(One-way visibility)

Mirropane glass was designed to allow clear visibility in one direction at a time only (based on light levels on either side). It is recommended to have dark furnishings and wear dark clothing on the side, requiring maximum privacy. This glass performs like a typical mirror on one side and a tinted window on the other. Must be installed with the coating to the subject’s (observed) side. Typical applications include Banks, cash offices, supermarkets, and interior applications.

Please note

  • Various thickness options are available – please inquire. Typical thickness of individual panes = ⅛” or ¼.”
  • All glass is tempered unless specified or noted. Tempered glass breaks into small pieces when broken and usually never cracks.
  • Low – E available upon request
  • Glass is priced out per pane/unit, with a square foot minimum per pane based on the glass type. Thus the size and number of lines in the door will directly affect the overall cost.
