Butt Hinges (AKA Mortise Hinges)
Two leaf plates are anchored to the edge of the door and the other into the door jamb. The plates come together the leaf plates are hidden, and when closed, the only thing visible is the barrel.

Spring
Hinge
A variation of the butt hinge, in which the leaf plates are fitted with spring metal that causes the hinge to close automatically.
Double Acting Spring Hinge
Permits doors to open in either direction and automatically return to the closed position.

Strap Hinges
Strap hinges are required for large, heavy doors and are otherwise desirable for a historical character and interest. Backplates are used to distribute the force of the fasteners over a larger surface, preventing damage to the door.

“Half” surface indicates that one leaf mounts into the jamb, and the long strap mounts across the face of the door.
