Our Story
As a young carpenter, Don Rees was dismayed by the consumerism and conformity of the homebuilding industry. He wanted to build homes that were authentic and unique to each client. So Don started building custom timber frame homes in 1976. Don started making custom doors for each home because nothing mass-produced fit the bill.
This commitment to finding unique solutions led Don to create his first swing-out carriage garage doors on a home in 1995. Soon these solid wood carriage doors became a hallmark of his projects. Posting photos of these carriage doors online resulted in demand that Don never could have expected. His carriage doors fulfilled an unmet need: garage doors that looked elegant and timeless. Before long, the demand for carriage doors became so great that Don decided to take the plunge and switch from home building to custom doors full time. That custom door business evolved into what is now RealCraft.
Today, RealCraft Custom builds one-of-a-kind hand-crafted doors and hardware to help homeowners escape from the conformity of mass produced products and find the unique piece that will express their style and last for decades.

Our Wood Shop
RealCraft is based in Gig Harbor, Washington. From our 16,000 square foot production shop, we handcraft and ship our solid wood doors all over the United States and Canada. We are always inspired by our surroundings here in the Pacific Northwest. The dense forests and sparkling Puget Sound remind us how important it is to use materials responsibly.
